To be honest, I agree. I don't think Poland really has much of a chance. I'll be shocked if we win, but I don't think it'll happen. Poland does have a long way to go, but who knows, maybe they have some ambitious plans to improve the stadiums which is why they are in the final 3. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

Kamil, don't get me wrong. I have a huge amount of faith and pride in Polska that's why I'm at almost every home game and a lot of away ones however I just don't think we are ready. There is no doubt we are improving , and fast but it's going to take time. The fat beurocrats and politicians need to put their hands in their pockets, they need to attract sponsorship and change a lifetime of neglect towards our clubs and national side.

You look at Egypt holding the African Nations Cup, they had one big stadium, would hold, maybe up to a 100,000, nicknamed the Cathedral;
Most of the other stadiums were less than 20,000; then you say, well that is Africa;
But if partners with Ukraine, maybe they have some good ones, Poland some good ones;
Italy just held the Olympics; but ... in so many other ways, FIFA or UEFA, whomever, might not want to go there because of the ongoing problems with Ultras and racism.
They might look at Korea Japan 2002; opt for another 2 nation hosting situation.
So, with people looking at behavior, which I think is going on, let's hope there are no major acts of misconduct by Poles at this coming World Cup. And even then, don't forget German hooligans set that French policeman to a fractured skull and coma in 1998.

We see the same news reports or we all can; but no one has posted this yet.
I can't imagine Ukraine spending $240 million dollars on a stadium; and for the Poland Ukraine host bid being turned down. Apparently this was a problem earlier on, reported in Feb. or Jan. Now, kind of solved;
Problem with the stadium, sounded more like construction was happening next to the stadium; maybe the stadium used by Kiev Dynamo.

btw, the headline says the problem is solved while the truth seems to be "mostly all solved!"
Ukraine leader, soccer officials solve stadium issue Thu Mar 16, 2006 5:36 PM GMT Printer Friendly | Email Article | RSS By Mikhail Volobuyev
KIEV, March 16 (Reuters) - President Viktor Yushchenko and top soccer officials have all but resolved a row over a construction site by Ukraine's main stadium which had threatened to derail Kiev's bid to co-host the 2012 European championship.
A meeting between Yushchenko and his sports minister produced agreement on a project to upgrade and modernise the stadium.
It also backed a compromise allowing construction of a nearby shopping and entertainment complex to proceed without endangering the stadium's safety norms.
"The president supported proposals on upgrading the national sports complex and agreed to allocate $240 million in investment," Sports Minister Yuri Pavlenko told reporters at a ceremony honouring Ukraine's Olympic athletes.
"This shows the president supports Ukraine's bid with Poland for Euro 2012. I have no doubt now that our bid has an excellent chance of winning."
Construction at the site was suspended earlier this week after lobbying by soccer and government officials.
World governing body FIFA had warned the Ukrainian federation it would withdraw permission for international matches to be played at the 84,000-seat Olympic stadium as the complex's proximity compromised safety and public order rules.
Oleksander Bandurko, the federation's executive director, said the site's owners had agreed to alter plans to keep within the regulations.
"The halt in construction allowed for a decision to be taken that was acceptable to all," he said. "The problem is not yet entirely solved, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
"We now know that the Olympic stadium is safe and can continue to accommodate the 84,000 spectators as it always did. We can win this competition."
The stadium, built in 1923, has undergone reconstruction several times and was used for the soccer tournament at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. It remains the focus of soccer in Ukraine and draws huge crowds at major matches.
Ukraine's joint bid with Poland was a surprise inclusion on the shortlist of candidates to hold the 2012 tournament, along with Italy and a joint entry by Hungary and Croatia.
The bid is to be presented in detail to a UEFA meeting in Budapest next week. UEFA officials are due to visit Ukraine early next month.

Spending 500 Million - http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000085&sid=aDbVeS0x4MQc&refer=europe
"April 13 (Bloomberg) -- Poland is spending more than $500 million on new stadiums as it seeks to upset the odds and bring the continent's top soccer tournament to Eastern Europe for the first time.
,,,,,,,,,,
Long article, this tucked away at the end is interesting:
"In the first round of voting in November, Italy scored 11, Hungary and Croatia got nine, and Poland and Ukraine seven, according to UEFA's Web site. Turkey and Greece were eliminated.
``It was like a lottery, you do the numbers, but you don't expect anything, yet surprisingly we qualified,'' Listkiewicz said. ``Our hope is that UEFA will give a chance to the new countries as they did with Portugal. If UEFA is consistent, they should do the same.''
--------------------------------------
Nothing against Italy; but they have hosted it; sportingwise, it'd be nice to see Poland-Ukraine host it.

Well, travelling 1100 miles between a game, that the article does say, is a long distance.
----------------------
But again, going back to World Cup 2002; S. Korea and Japan were cohosts; you know, the Koreans retain animosities against Japan, sort of a similar situation with Poland and Germany, heck, I kept up with the news, there were riotous protests against Japan when the Asian Cup was held in China, so that is a second country that seems to have problems with the Japanese. But somehow, I think, FIFA imposed it's will more than that the countries offered to be joint-hosts.
And if 1100 miles is a long way; travelling air could be construed in similar ways.
I hope air travel is convenient between Poland and Ukraine; it's got to be a deal where if they don't get it this time, try again.
